Berlineinsatz 2019

On 8th – 13th July, a team of 25 international staff members, volunteers and a team of background workers from our partners ReachGlobal participated in this year’s Berlin outreach. We were once again encouraged by the openness of people to listen to the Gospel and had great conversations with people from all around the world, but especially with Israelis!

In the mornings we handed out evangelistic postcards and in the afternoons, we asked people to engage with us on the topic of #ThePeacemaker, using our portable chalk boards. We spoke with Muslims, Hindus, Sikhs, Atheists, Agnostics, and of course Jews about Jesus being the only way to peace.

On two afternoons we experimented with handing out free water bottles with an evangelistic postcard attached that read, “Thirsty?” followed by a short Gospel message. People were genuinely touched by what we were doing, and this allowed us to have excellent Gospel conversations.

In just one week, we had conversations with almost 1,000 people and handed out almost 10,000 evangelistic postcards! 700 people took our water bottles with flyers.

In just one week, we had conversations with almost 1,000 people and handed out almost 10,000 evangelistic postcards! 700 people took our water bottles with flyers. And out of the 150 people of different ethnic backgrounds who gave us their contact information, 15 people prayed to receive the Lord!

Please pray that the Lord would go after these people and bring them to Himself!

Here are some stories from the streets of Berlin that will warm your hearts!

I met a young German named Uwe* who was 29 years old and homeless. His family had been killed in an accident. Uwe felt God was mad at him and showed it by taking his whole family. I shared that Jesus loved him very much and knew every tear he cried. “He came to die for the bad things we have done called “sin” and rose back from the grave. Jesus said, ‘I am the resurrection and the life, he that believes in me has eternal life.’” I also explained to Uwe that when we receive Jesus as Savior and ask Him to forgive our sins, He will give us strength to go through our deepest valleys. Uwe prayed to receive Jesus and provided his contact information to be in touch.

While handing out evangelistic postcards at Alexanderplatz, an Israeli couple came up to me after noticing my red L’reacha sweatshirt (“L’reacha” is Hebrew for “your neighbor”). Noah* told me he was from Israel. I explained in Hebrew that I’m a messianic Jew and that I serve with Jews for Jesus. I asked him what he thought of this concept and he was ok with it. Then I mentioned that we have an office in Tel Aviv and wondered if my colleagues there could contact him. He said that was fine and gave me his full name, email address and phone number! Please pray for Noah and his companion that they will come to faith!

As I was standing next to our boards at Alexander Platz two Israelis caught my attention who were looking at the board. They were clearly interested and were reading what was written there. I approached them and started a conversation. They wanted to know more about the Peacemaker and about who we were. I told them that we were Jews for Jesus. At this piece of news they got a bit upset but still willingly took the small flyers with the Star of David on them that we were giving out.

A young man from Colombia, Alexander*, was very open. He accepted everything I said about Jesus. He said that he had thought about God before we met and our encounter was a sign for him that God really heard him. It was a special moment. He is a musician, which the Holy Spirit showed me even before Alexander told me his profession, and he was surprised when I revealed it to him. He could accept and understand everything I told him about Jesus. As we prayed together, he was almost ready to give his life to Jesus. However, something still stopped him. But he gave me his contact information to get more literature about Jesus as the Messiah, and I hope the Lord will finally lead him to salvation.
